My partners at Grape Radio have put together their first short form documentary. They chose to focus on the Russian River Valley wine region and so far, everyone I have shown it to has been blown away. Podcasting has certainly evolved. One friend commented that content like this is proof that independent “new media” can compete with anything on traditional TV. Even if you are not an oenophile (wine lover) take a look and let me know what you think. (Just click the image below.)

Michael, This is a great production, or should I say grape production!
You have been a leader and teacher in helping others start their podcasting, me included. So as this new media evolves, there is plenty of rooom for new productions on the Internet.
Thanks.
Brent
Thanks Brent! Your kind words are appreciated.

Outstanding! The production values are excellent and the writing, editing and pacing outclass many pro documentaries I have seen. It really shows the promise of podcasting: great things happen when high-quality tools become accessible to those who have a passion for the subject matter.
I would love to know more about how it was all done, from the cameras to the division of labor to the time it all took. I’m sure many other podcasters would be interested too.

Hi Bruce,
While I share your enthusiasm for the possibilities of podcasting, I must say that top-quality video doesn’t happen by accident. There is no substitute for working with a qualified and professional crew. I regularly direct and shoot for Discovery, BBC, MTV, etc. Jay Selman is a master producer, tireless organizer, interviewer, and idea-generator. Eric Anderson is also a top-rate interviewer with an encyclopedic knowledge of wine.
There aren’t any secrets, the formula is simple:
A professional crew.
40 hours of interviews over a one-year period.
4 weeks of editing, sourcing stock photos, music, color correction, and audio mixing.
