I upgraded the software for my computer’s TV Tuner to EyeTV 3. I like it.
At first you think it is a spoof… then you realize the guy is for real.
I upgraded to a new Mac Pro last week. One of the “forced” upgrades was on my external RAID 0 array. I had to buy a new, rather expensive PCI-e external SATA card. (The old Dual 2.5Mhz G5 used PCI-x.) I needed 4 ports which seems to come at a premium. $280+. Nice thing is the new card will allow me to run four separate 5 disk enclosures off that one card, though I doubt I’ll take that leap.
Two years ago I experimented with an external RAID 0 array made up of two disks. A few months later I built a second and combined them for an external 1.2 TB RAID 0 array. I built it mainly as a fun project for video editing and as an audio scratch disk, though I now also use it for my EYE TV recording and to store all my miscellaneous media. Of course, I back it all up to a separate 1.0TB external FW800 drive. RAID 0 can be a bit risky… It is kind of like cars, the horsepower and speed are awesome. Once you get one, it is hard to go back.
Anyway, GOLIATH (the name I assigned to the array) is back up and running, faster than ever. I’m liking the new Mac Pro.
I have a friend who put her entire IRA holdings into Apple Stock in 2002 back when I first bought an iPod. She got in at $6 a share. 20/20 hindsight paints her as a genius. Congratulations!
Iowa Caucus results – very interesting… can’t wait for New Hampshire! It is the Political Science major in me.
I was browsing books on Amazon and came across this warning:
This book contains the following:
Unsafe use of powerful firearms in combination with explosives
Cultivation of illegal crops
Impressionable minors being exposed to illicit activities
Piloting of automobiles under impaired conditions
Transporting large sums of cash across national borders
*Stunts performed in this book were undertaken by professionals. Do not attempt them at home.
Tongue in cheek I’,m sure. Funny…
“Nick, put your lightsaber away before going outside.”
I saw a great documentary on Stanley Kubrick a few days ago. Since then, a single quote has rattled around in my head.
Jack Nicholson on Stanley Kubrick:
Everybody pretty much acknowledges he’s “The Man”… and… I still feel that underates him.
Considering the source, could that just be the single coolest quote ever?
UPDATE: - Solved, thanks to Ryan Irelan!
If you are knowledgeable about .htaccess files I could use some quick help.
Basically, I just need to do what I perceive as a simple (permanent) redirect/rewrite. We are moving some archives and I need requests coming in for:
http://pa.gigavox.com/shows/detailXXXX.html
to go to
http://podcastacademy.com/shows/detailXXXX
The XXXX represents a 4 number sequence.
I have this in the subdomain’s (pa.gigavox.com) root but it is not working.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} pa.gigavox.com
RewriteRule ^/shows/detail(.*).html http://podcastacademy.com/shows/detail$1 [R=301,L]
Any ideas? Post a comment or I can be contacted at: michael AT mwgblog.com
Thanks!
Here is the solution via Ryan:
# Redirects for old posts
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^shows/detail(.*).html http://podcastacademy.com/shows/detail$1 [R=301,L]
Apparently there was an extra “/” in there. Thanks Ryan!
