Great points but take away 5 is not entirely true.

5.	Many content producers have finally realized that if they want to monetize, they are on their own. You are your own best salesperson. Need proof? Look at who did not attend this year. If ad sales/aggregation groups were working as a market segment, they would have been the largest contingent of exhibitors. Most have vanished or “refocused” their business plans.

I saw Podtrac and Wizard media with booths there and they both do ad sales/aggregation.

Thanks for the summary Mike. I did not attend the Expo this year. Last year I made a comment similar to your second point last year. Tim B. didn't take kindly to my observations but it seems like now he might be moved to make some changes.

I think the one concept that continues to be under emphasized when speaking to indie podcasters is the importance of building brand and community. I see a lot of people trying to "make money" before they've build a strong brand or developed any sort of a loyal community. As a result many indie podcasters get frustrated at the low payouts and dearth of opportunities for monetization.

Indie podcasters need to forget about making money and get in the business of building brands and communities first.

Great catching up with you at this year's Expo, Michael. The attendees were much more focused on the business and money side of podcasting. It was refreshing to see this.
