I found a great site today via the L.A. Times: Wolfgang’s Vault. It is a site that has been charged with distributing Bill Graham’s extensive archive of rock memorabilia. If you are a rock aficionado (or grew up in the Bay Area) the name will ring a bell – he is the greatest rock promoter of all time. In addition to the amazing posters and miscellaneous memorabilia; they have made available, via streaming, all of his concert recordings. I’ve spent the day listening to live performances, by The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Elvis Costello, Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie – you name it, they have it. They even have the 1983-84 David Bowie tour that we ended football practice early on a Saturday for so everyone could go. The collection is incredible. Right now I am listening to David Bowie, Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, NY March 23, 1976. Worth checking out. Did I mention it is all free?

[…] Wow, what a kick ass find by Michael G! If you are a big time music lover like myself, or have had any experience in the music industry then you have heard of Bill Graham, arguably the best concert promoter to ever walk the planet. This site, Wolfgangs Vault is a dedication to all of Bill’s concerts and is not only chock full of all of the “swag” that went along with the times, t-shirts, posters, etc, but has crystal clear streaming recordings of some of the best live music ever. I am listening to the featured show on the home page, Black Sabbath, 8/5/75 from Convention Hall in Asbury Park, NJ, its so clean. This site is a gem. There are currently 310 live shows available for free download. […]
Wow. Thanks for the find. What a great collection of concerts. Listening to The Who at The Fillmore in ’68.
Glad you liked it Brian. Great stuff in there. You can spend your whole day just sampling. I’ve got Sly & the Family Stone: Filmore East, New York, NY, Oct 5, 1968 playing right now. Awesome!
