I saw a press release on Podcasting News about the upcoming International Podcasting Expo held “virtually” in late October. I don’t know anything about this event, but I found it strange that with early registration you receive “a free 2-CD set of the Expo recordings”? Huh? A conference about podcasting that burns the audio or video to CD and mails it to you? Just struck me as odd. I’m surprised that the presenters don’t insist that their presentations are podcast.

Michael, if you check out the International Podcasting Expo (http://www.InternationalPodcastingExpo.com) site, you’ll see that downloadable access to all of the 30-40 recorded events is already included in the price of admission ($20-$25). We place everything on a password protected RSS feed and give attendees access to it. We also have a password protected program that they can install on their desktop that gives them the ability to listen or view online, or download the content at will. Free seminars will be placed on the IPE (International Podcasting Expo) site feed for public subscribers.
However, with the huge amount of content we provide (2 CDs worth of data at this point), many people would rather have it burned to CD and sent to them rather than download that much content. In addition, not everyone who attends is already a knowledgable podcaster, and some people still prefer a hard copy for safe keeping.
I hope that clarifies the issue for you. We do offer podcasting downloads of all of our recorded events. I hope you will join us, as we are now partnering with Podlook, the Chinese Podcasting Directory, Podemus, the French Podcasting Directory, PodBlog.dk, the Danish podcast journalist site, and others. Andy Wibbels of BlogWild will be a Keynote Speaker, while PodPress’ Mighty Seek, Eric Olsen of FeedBurner, and Andrew Schlichting of PRWeb Podcast, will also be participating, among others.
I hope to see you there.

Thank you for the clarification. I just couldn’t help but notice the press release highlighted the fact that the content was available on CD rather than via podcast.
Best of luck with your event.
