Podcast Academy at Boston University

Podcast Academy

The site for the upcoming Podcast Academy at Boston University is up. The dates are April 28-29, 2006 and Doug Kaye and the entire team have put together a great schedule. This event promises to be a good resource for both the beginner and seasoned professional alike. I particularly appreciate the addition of tracks focused on educational and corporate uses. I really enjoyed participating in the first Academy, I am glad they have asked me back. Prior to March 15th there is a $50 discount on registration.

Going Wireless

Marantz PMD671, Sennheiser wireless system and Sennheiser MD46

I decided to invest in a wireless setup to use when doing certain kinds of events for the Disneyland Resort Podcast and some of the other projects I work on. I have always been particularly jealous of the TV crews using wireless interview mics when doing red carpet events. Invariably I am crammed in there with my audio assistant tethered by wire. With this new setup, the person manning the recorder can step back and comfortably do his job and I am freed from constantly watching my wires and can focus on the interviews. I went with the Sennheiser EW 100ENG G2 which comes with one receiver, a plug-on mic transmitter as well as a second transmitter and lavalier mic. I can use the additional lavalier mic and transmitter to record presentations etc. I am looking forward to using the system. Just in my experimenting today it worked great.

I just got word that our book, Podcast Solutions will soon be carried in the top 50 Apple stores. Finally! We have been after that goal for months. Thanks again for all your support and in particular to our publisher Apress/Friends of ED and my co-author Dan Klass. As I have mentioned before, the book continues to sell well and has entered its second printing.

Value Of A Name

Today I was playing with a site I first set up back in October of 2004, PodcastCentral.com. Frankly, I have not done much with it. I am not a fancy web designer like some and it has sat largely dormant. Today, I checked and low and behold it comes up on the first page of Google under the search term “podcast”. It is even ahead of the Yahoo podcast directory in the results. Pretty cool – but what is it’s significance? Unless someone wants to partner to develop the site – I don’t really have a plan for it. So, out of curiosity, I decided to see who else might be interested in the name. Turns out quite a few large corporations like the name:
